The dairy industry is unique among Australian agricultural industries with a history of cooperation and many of the organisational structures that make it possible to aim for the most idealistic and transformational leadership goals.

Goal 2: Leadership Capabilities and Expectations

We encourage everyone to build leadership skills in their sphere of influence and to consistently demonstrate leadership.

Leadership Capabilities

The Leadership Capabilities document describes leadership expectations and provides guidance and support for a person’s leadership development across their career.

Leadership Technical Skills and Knowledge (horizontal capabilities)

Many of these skills apply specifically to formal leadership roles. Some may be relevant to others as well.

Purpose of Strategy

The Dairy Leadership Strategy is intended to be aspirational, idealistic and transformational. It is a plan that everyone in the industry can contribute to in their own way, in whatever role they play.

Goal 3: Leadership Impact

Our leadership contributes to a positive culture. One of the most important actions identified in the Australian Dairy Plan is to make an urgent, meaningful, industry-wide shift in our behaviour.

Appendix 1: Dairy Leadership Capabilities

The Dairy Leadership Strategy recognises that ‘everyone is a leader’, and that we all have a collective responsibility for what we do and how we do it.

Being able to attract the right people, engage and manage them effectively and provide development opportunities is essential for the long-term viability of the industry.

These are universal skills that everyone in the dairy industry can develop in their work, home and community.
