Commitment 2: Improving wellbeing of people

We commit to providing nutritious, safe, quality dairy food.

Population growth will place increasing pressure on food production. Milk, cheese and yoghurt contain a unique package of essential vitamins and minerals that support good health. Despite this, only 10% of Australians consume enough milk, cheese and yoghurt every day.

Our goals

To encourage Australians to meet their recommended daily dairy intake, we are committed through the Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework to the following goals:

  • All dairy products and ingredients sold are safe (Framework Goal 5). Targets include: food safety and contamination for high quality dairy products and creating a positive food safety culture
  • Dairy contributes to improved health outcomes for all Australians (Framework Goal 6). Targets include: consumer perception of dairy foods, inclusion in dietary guidelines, Australians consuming the recommended serves of dairy and company commitments to responsible consumption.

Key achievements in 2021

  • No cases of non-compliant chemical residues in dairy.
  • Almost 90 per cent of GPs feel confident to recommend dairy as part of a balanced diet.
  • Research shows dairy reduces fractures in aged care residents by 33 per cent.

Check out our progress on our goals against baseline and 2030 targets in the 2021 Australian Dairy Sustainability Progress Report.
